Exquisite Corpse #1
A surreal comic that emerged from lockdown boredom. My friend and I tried the old surrealist game—writing a story where you only see the last sentence before adding your part. What started as a weird writing experiment became a complete comic book.
About This Project
During lockdown, my friend and I decided to experiment with the surrealist Exquisite Corpse technique. We're both big fans of Henry Miller, who also experimented with this approach. The concept is that one person writes something, covers it up except for the last sentence, then the next person continues from there.
To make this work remotely, I coded a simple script that would hide everything except the last sentence when we shared our parts. We went back and forth like this, building this completely unpredictable story. Neither of us knew where it was heading, which was exciting. The constraint made everything more spontaneous—you can't plan ahead when you're working blind.
After we finished writing, I couldn't shake the feeling that this weird little story needed to become something visual. So I turned it into a comic. You can check out the final result here (it's in Polish)—it captures all the random energy of our collaboration process.
